KENYA AIRWAYS RECEIVES SECOND B777-300ER

Nairobi, May 5, 2014-Kenya Airways has received a second B777-300ER aircraft, highlighting the airline’s drive to expand and modernize its fleet.
The aircraft landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi yesterday from Seattle in the US, where it was manufactured by Boeing. It was received by Evanson Mwaniki, Chairman of the Kenya Airways’ Board of Directors. It has a capacity of 400 passengers and over 20 metric tonnes of cargo.

The delivery of the B777-300ER comes only weeks after Kenya Airways received its first ever Dreamliner, named ‘Great Rift Valley’ ,which was unveiled at JKIA by President Uhuru Kenyatta on April 5, 2014.

This is the second B777-300ER aircraft that the airline has acquired. The first one was taken delivery of in October 2013.
Speaking when he received the aircraft at JKIA, Kenya Airways’ Group Chairman, Evanson Mwaniki, said that the airline’s fleet expansion will increase its competitiveness by delivering a world-class experience to customers.

“This is the second of 10 new aircraft that we expect this year. The acquisition of these aircrafts will pave way for the introduction of new intercontinental flights and increasing the frequency on existing ones,” Mr. Mwaniki added.

The new B777-300ER aircraft will commence operations on June 2, flying between Nairobi and Amsterdam. The first B777-300ER aircraft, which currently flies directly to Guangzhou, will also fly to Lagos in Nigeria from June.

The new B777-300ER joins an already existing range of Boeing planes in the airline’s fleet – which includes 27 passenger aircraft and one freighter. This year, Kenya Airways expects five more Dreamliners, 2 Boeing 737-800ER, and another Boeing 777-300ER. This is part of its fleet expansion plan under Project Mawingu.

Among the exciting features in the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft’s Premier World section are: full flat bed seats with leather foot-rests, laptop stowage and armrests that also act as privacy dividers, Wi-Fi connectivity for passengers, high quality in-flight entertainment; a 15.4 inch touch screen monitor for each seat, power sockets and USB  ports.

For the Economy Class, seats are also a cut above the rest, with articulating seat bottoms for better legroom, four-way adjustable headrests, in-flight handset seatback and large 10.6 inch touch screen monitors. Each seat also has a USB port, with power sockets strategically installed throughout the cabin.
