Precision Air invests 400m/- to recruit local pilots

PRECISION Air will spend more than 400m/- on recruitment of local pilots through a special programme that will see more than 30 employed as part of the airline’s turnaround plans and restructuring of its operations.
The airline said in a statement issued that they had already recruited 15 local pilots and 10 among them were attending training at the company’s headquarters before they go for further training abroad under partial sponsorship of the airline.
“We have been facing challenges in recruiting well trained local pilots with qualifications to fly our aircraft therefore we had to establish this programme to ensure that we build on a pool of local pilots to fill up vacancy gaps within our company,” Precision Air’s Managing Director, Ms Sauda Rajab said.
The recruitment goes hand in hand with the company’s turnaround plans and restructuring of its operations, that have so far contributed to significant improvement in operations of the airline, she said citing On Time Performance that has shot to an average of 90 per cent at zero minute.
“This is a great achievement considering most airlines measure their OTP at 15 minutes, thus only considering a delay 15 minutes after the actual departure time,” she said.
Precision Air will also recruit 10 university graduates who would be employed under a management trainee programme to run for one year.
The programme is aimed at developing skills required to run and manage the airline business. Commenting, Precision Air’s Human Resource Director Ms Reynada Sikira said that airline business was a very complex business which required highly experienced and qualified professionals.
Given the status of aviation sector in Tanzania, at times it may be difficult to get the desired candidates, she added. “Through this programme Precision Air expects to develop such desired skills.

This programme will be continuous and strictly for Tanzanians. Based on their performance and vacancies available at the end of this programme we will accommodate these graduates in different posts within the company,” she added.
