Etihad Airways and Tanzania's Precision Air unveil codeshare agreement

In a move that extends its reach across East Africa, Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, today announced that it has entered into a codeshare agreement with Precision Air, Tanzania’s leading domestic airline.   Under the new codeshare agreement, Etihad Airways will place its EY code on Precision Air flights between Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro, Mwanza, Mtwara, Nairobi, Zanzibar, Pemba, and between Nairobi and Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar. Precision Air will place its PW code on Etihad’s daily services between Dar es Salaam and Abu Dhabi, strengthening ties between East Africa and the United Arab Emirates. Tanzania government orders B787-8 "Dreamliner"

Eairlier this week, Tanzania's President John Magufuli held talks with a senior official of American aircraft manufacturer Boeing. Dr Magufuli's meeting with Boeing's Director of Marketing, Africa, Mr Jim Deboo, centred on the Tanzania government's intention to purchase a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner plane from the company. Dr Magufuli said his government has already made an initial payment for the aircraft. The aircraft will be acquired by the Tanzanian Government Flight Agency (TGFA) which will, in turn, lease it to Air Tanzania. The plane, which will be able to carry 262 passengers in a three-class configuration, is expected to be delivered in June 2018. The Dreamliner is expected to be added to Air Tanzania fleet to make it a total of 7 aicraft that will comprise of Bombardier Q300, Q400, CS300 and the Boeing B787-8. The government is currently implementing a comprehensive plan to revive the national carrier, Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL).

Tanzania signs firm orders for two Bombardier CS300s and one Q400.

The Tanzanian Government Flight Agency signed firm purchase agreements with Bombardier for two C Series CS300 jets and one Q400 twin turboprop airliner. ATCL to lay off 90 per cent of its workforce

THE national flag carrier, Air Tanzania Company Limited ( ATCL ), has announced plans to  lay - off  an estimated 200 employees as part of  its  efforts to revamp the struggling airline. The redundancy, which will affect 90 per cent of the airline’s employees, is aimed at implementing President John Magufuli’s directive to the new management to boost efficiency and send home all ineffective workers.  ATCL director general Eng Ladislaus Matindi told The Guardian yesterday they are in the process of suspending workers who can’t cope with current working speed.  “We have a good number of employees but only a few are efficient enough… we are filtering them so we can remain with the best personnel only,” Eng Matindi said. He said the company currently has a total of 221 employees, which is too big for them to handle. Eng Matindi cited some of the criteria to be used in laying off employees as working experience, academic qualifications, and customer care aptitude.  He

Tanzanian government adds more planes to ATCL fleet.

The government announced yesterday that plans are underway to acquire 4 planes to be added to ATCLs fleet which at the moment comprises of 3 aircraft. The new planes include one bombardier Dash8 Q400, two bombardier CS 300 and one Boeing 737NG. President John Magufuli said this during his first address to members of the press. He added that negotiations with the manufacturer are going on and further talks are set to take place this month. “We have allocated 10 million US dollars (21.80bn/) as advance payment for a new Boeing,” Dr Magufuli said. The plan, according to the president, is designed to transform the nation’s infrastructure and to spur development through industries and tourism. According to President Magufuli, Tanzania is not performing well in the tourism industry. He went on detailing that the government’s plan to shift its administration capital to Dodoma will also open up new tourism attraction sites.
